Moldavite is a green or greenish-brown stone that scientists believe formed from the splattered and cooled pieces of a large meteorite that hit the earth millions of years ago. If this is true, then Moedavite is a type of tektite—glass that forms from the ejection of meteorite debris during a meteorite’s impact. Named after Moldau, Czech Republic where it was first found, Moldavite makes up the majority of tektite on the gem market.
